Education and  career opportunities during COVID 19

22/6/2020

Picture

Every Recession has presented numerous challenges for every country, making it difficult for industries to survive and strive, but they have also ushered an era of opportunities for new-age industries to sprout and shape educators and academicians for decades. The global recession, induced by COVID-19, will fundamentally change the way humanity works, and socialises, for years to come. The COVID-19 crisis will be a catalyst to unprecedented changes in every industry. Every industry will be forced to reform and restructure in order to transform into the new realities that will emerge.

With so many options to choose from, the careers available in education management can fit into the personal and professional goals of education specialists for all levels and areas. A background and degree in education with an emphasis on management is helpful for gaining the knowledge needed to best set up processes and systems to help students be successful.

Education Management Overview
For most future professionals looking forward to a career in education management, completing a master's degree will likely be a preferred or required qualification. In a master's in educational management program, students learn about a number of issues within the field. Many of the courses centre on community relations, ethics in education, diversity in education, developing curriculum and programs, legal issues, financial reporting and budgeting, and supervision of staff and students.
In addition to these courses, students in a graduate degree program to enter into education management will often also complete traditional management related classes. These courses might include accounting, technical writing, public relations, and conflict resolution.

Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education
Having qualifications in education management enables professionals to fill many required positions within various levels of education. At the pre-secondary levels of education, specialists in this area might pursue careers in the administration of schools and districts, including assistant principal, principal, dean of students, and superintendent positions. More information on skills and qualifications that are helpful can be found at the School Superintendents Association website.
Early childhood, elementary, and secondary schools also employ specialists to oversee the development and implementation of various programs, from special education to gifted studies to teacher training and professional development. Education management is a helpful start for positions in this area. Curriculum developers also benefit from a background in education management.
Post-Secondary Education
After high school graduation, many people go on to complete degree or certification programs at community colleges, universities, or vocational training schools. Education managers develop the programs, departments, and services that undergraduate and graduate students need to complete these studies.
Like pre-secondary education, skill in management specific to the educational field is helpful for administrative type positions within an organization. Some examples of positions are dean of students, academic division or department chair, and executive level careers such as vice president, provost, and president. In each, education managers will work closely with students, staff, and faculty.

Other departments outside of academics also require management. Education managers qualify for positions in departments such as financial aid, student services, testing and disability accommodations, and human resources. Management skills in budgeting and scheduling are helpful for working with all areas of education management.

Online and Traditional Institutions
In both online and traditional in-seat formats, educational institutions need qualified professionals to head up various departments. In addition, many institutions also employ positions such as director of operations and faculty manager.

A career in education offers many personal and professional rewards. With diverse possibilities for working with students, staff, teachers, and districts, the careers available in education management can help all educators find a position that is the best fit for skills, experience, and goals.

The Four Stages of Management Education

“MANAGERS REQUIRE DIFFERENT KINDS OF EDUCATION AS THEY   PROGRESS THROUGH THEIR CAREERS. AS BUSINESS SCHOOLS SEEK TO             MATCH THEIR OFFERINGS WITH EXECUTIVE NEEDS, THEY MAY FIND          THEY CAN’T BE ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE”

  1. Functional competence: At the most basic level of ability, managers must understand the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, IT, economics, operations, and human resource management. Business schools are actually quite good at fulfilling these needs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Business school departments most frequently are organized by functional silos, and academic journals also mirror those disciplines. Many studies acknowledge that graduates at this level are satisfied with their knowledge acquisition and value their increased skills once they are in the workplace.

  1. An understanding of context and strategy: Problems begin to appear at the next level of management. Rising executives need to understand how organizational processes interrelate and occur within a context. They must be able to make sense of societal changes, political drivers, social values, global interaction, and technological change.

These needs present a dilemma for schools. One reason is that there is little cross- functional research at many institutions. Not only are there few outlets for       interdisciplinary research, but it is difficult for any professor to be well-versed in a            broad range of subjects.

But there is a more critical reason. Without practical experience, it’s impossible for            faculty members to acquire an understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of the           world and the specifics of managing within context. To understand—and teach—such       skills, professors must have had hands-on experience within managerial    environments, whether they were in the private, public, or nongovernmental sectors.

  1. The ability to influence people: Building on their understanding of the interconnected nature of management, executives at the third level want to learn how to exert influence on their organizations. It is one thing to formulate a strategy, and it is quite another to implement that strategy while getting the buy-in of the rest of the staff. To be successful, managers must understand human drivers and the development of collective views. They must cultivate a broad understanding of societies and the sociology of organizations, and they must be able to challenge and communicate.

Again, this presents a significant difficulty for business schools. There are simply not many faculty members who have a psychological understanding of human drivers. In addition, few faculties have any experience in practically influencing social constructs within organizations.

  1. Reflective skills: At the top level of management, executives need to develop themselves as human beings. Two considerations move them. First, as their seniority increases, they begin to reflect on their own wants, needs, and capabilities so they can set priorities and spend time on what’s most important. Second, as they rise within management ranks, they inevitably are aging. Top managers not only must prioritize their work efforts, but they also must prioritize their life goals. As they realize they are mortal, they must consider what they want to accomplish with what time they have left.

When virtual education become an importance The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a curveball that has brought entire countries to their knees. With lockdowns and forced social distancing, we’ve seen industries come to a standstill as people are forced to stay indoors. As society at large tries to grapple with the extent of the impact, technology has in many ways, emerged as the saviour. Among other things, it has allowed people to work from home, people to shop from the comfort of their homes. It has enabled governments to monitor and take targeted action to curb the spread of the virus and completely allows virtual education that becomes highly preferred choice of education in present pandemic situation this is because the present situation allows a great social distancing a complete lockdown due to which professors, teachers, working professionals and people either find it difficult to go to basic traditional college and attend classes. Globally, universities and higher education institutions encouraging all their academic faculties to take part in this virtual education system to deploy higher degree to the educators and students for their career growth, which would be beneficial for the wellbeing of the future managers.

Big opportunities for young entrepreneurs in construction
Despite current challenges, there is still plenty of opportunity for dynamic young people in the construction industry. One might be forgiven for thinking that young people would be well advised to steer clear of construction when choosing a career. But with Youth Month still fresh in our minds, it’s worth reminding ourselves that, despite the real challenges it faces, construction still offers young people a potentially lucrative career, says Rob Newberry, an industry veteran who is currently working with the Master Builders Association North on initiatives designed to nurture small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“While it’s unfortunate that the bigger players are falling by the wayside, their ill fortune is definitely creating huge opportunities for SMEs in both the public and private sectors,” Newberry says. “Make no mistake, it’s a tough industry but, with hard work, it’s still possible to make excellent returns.”

A female entrepreneur Lechesa concurs. “You need to have a passion for what you are doing and that passion will make you rise above the rest. There are always opportunities in any field – all you need to do is come up with innovative ideas on how to solve the challenges facing your market,” she says
